Read an article in the Jing Daily talking about big spending Chinese tourists hitting New York.
Jing Daily writes that: "Major American tourist destinations like New York have recognized the huge opportunity that China’s growing ranks of outbound tourists present and have retooled their marketing appropriately."
Jing Daily quotes From Huanqiu, via Xinhua
"It is estimated that the “Gathering of 1,000″ Chinese tourists will contribute roughly $6 million to the U.S. economy in this trip alone."
It's great that destinations like New York have woken up to the potential of the Chinese travel market and "have retooled their marketing appropriately", but when are other destinations like London going to follow suit?
Simple measures like multi-lingual staff and signs are easy enough to implement and really appreciated by travellers. Online measures can be taken. Information on a website can easily be translated. A simple translated landing page and appropriate keywords, can bring in traffic from Chinese search engines. Social media can raise awareness and help engagement.
The Chinese travel market is here to stay. 55 million tourists are expected to travel out of China this year.
If you are a destination, a hotel, a shop, restaurant, a tourist attraction, a musuem, an art gallery, or any place that benefits from the travel trade, what are YOU doing to engage with China?
